A history of restoration efforts for Vancouver Lake
Port
of Vancouver. 1976. Vancouver Lake Reclamation (EPA Grant Application).
Vancouver Lake is a highly eutrophic 2.600 acre lake located in southwestern Clark County adjacent to the City of Vancouver (pop.46,500) in the greater Portland-Vancouver S.M.S.A. (pop.1,290,700). The initial phase of the restoration project will be to conduct pilot dredging in Vancouver Lake to determine the problems and methods of disposal of the highly organic bottom material.
The second phase of the project will be to acquire and construct the flushing channel necessary to introduce fresh water from the Columbia River at Columbia River mile 100.7.
The third phase of the project will be to conduct intensive periodic dredging of the lake bottom to remove the polluted sediments and to deepen the lake for recreational activities.
This approach to rehabilitating Vancouver Lake is outlined in: Vancouver Lake Reclamation: Lake Dredging and the Columbia River Channel (Stevens, Thompson and Runyan, 1973).
